Home Health Attack
A home aide is currently “on the run” after she was caught beating an elderly woman, Dorothy, who’s 95 years old, with a saucepan in her apartment on July 21st. Dorothy’s granddaughters placed cameras throughout her apartment in Harlem, New York, where they witnessed in horror as the healthcare worker assaulted their loved one with the kitchen object.
Medflyt at Home Health Care Agency employees the assistant who assaulted Dorothy. In the video footage, you can hear the aide yelling, “You’re pissing me off,” to Dorothy. After throwing two items toward the 95-year-old woman, the aide hit Dorothy with the saucepan. The aide continued to hurt Dorothy with the kitchen tool until she fell on her walker. Dorothy was left with multiple bruises and potential blood clots, as well as limited mobility in her arms following
these attacks.
Dorothy’s granddaughter, Michelle Mitchell, said she “felt helpless… it was the worst thing I could have imagined.” And that it was “unreal” to her that somebody could do something like this. She added that it was “a nightmare… one of the worst days of my life.”
Racial disparities like the one described above continue to persist among older people and their caretakers. The Nursing Home Abuse Center confirmed that older Black people are “twice as likely to face emotional and psychological abuse.” Additionally, The National Institute of Health also stated that this specific demographic faces more cases of abuse compared to their white counterparts.
Regarding the aide on the run, Medflyt confirmed their cooperation with the police in identifying her. The agency said, “We’re doing an internal investigation alongside the New York City Police Department and are cooperating with authorities.” The NYPD has made no arrests thus far.
